Christmas Trees in April, Pumpkins in May

Holiday Decor

I absolutely love the holidays and everything that comes with them, specifically the parties, the people, and the food. The thing I have the hardest time wrapping my head around is the decorating. I’m not talking about the fun hosting kind of decorating where I can find unique things to decorate the table and bar with. I’m talking about the decorations that you pull out every year, display around the house, and then have to pack up a few weeks later and do it all over again for the next holiday. I wish I could say that my resistance comes from being too “design-y” to accept the same decor year after year, but in all honesty, I think it’s just laziness. It’s so much work, and these days, I’m tired.

The Tree

When Joe and I came across this website, we were extremely pumped that a tree existed that was basically tailored to my holiday laziness but looked awesome. The tree is from Balsam Hill (link here) and is on wheels. You just flip it over and add the top… How cool is that?? It’s stored in a relatively small bag, and it comes with lights already on it. Even having to pull from the storage locker in our apartment complex took less than 10 minutes to set up.

This is a random side note, but I was also pretty obsessed with our gift wrapping this year… Thank you Target!!

The ornaments were another story. I try to avoid kid-proofing every single thing, so we attempted glass ornaments this year… big mistake. Even with my close supervision, J managed to break multiple. Thankfully, he walked away with barely a scratch (no idea how we got so lucky), but it wasn’t worth the risk or headache. I knew we had to revamp the tree. We had gone to a fun holiday party around that time, and one of the crafts involved the kids making ornaments with scrabble letter We decided to run with that idea, bought scrabble letters and popsicle sticks, and had a bunch of ornaments in no time at all. So crafty:)

Why, you may ask, am I posting about this after Easter?

It’s the end of April, and the tree is just now coming down. A whole new record. Where does time go?? We’ve been throwing every ounce of time and energy into our new house, so we decided to just keep it up until we were able to store it in our new basement. Good thing it was pretty to look at!

The other big holiday decor fail? The apartment we’ve lived in for our first 10 months in Maryland had a cute little ledge outside of each apartment. People can place small items on the ledge to either show a bit of their interests/personality or to show something fun for the current season.

Well, this turkey and pumpkin was the first decoration we put on the ledge and will probably be one of the last things we pack away before our move coming up #designfail #toddlermomlife … I’m embracing it:)
