My sign obsession…
Trends come and go, but the inspirational sign trend might be one of my favorites. I hope it lasts a long, long time. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older or because kids made me a little softer and more emotional? Surrounding myself by meaningful quotes and phrases makes me feel happy. I know it’s silly to put so much weight on wall decor, but I can’t be the only one who feels this way or it wouldn’t be so popular. It’s like decorating with photos or family heirlooms… You can design a space to reflect more of your personality… And it doesn’t hurt to give your guests something to read while visiting:)
Love, Faith, Family
These beauties are currently our biggest sign statement. During the kitchen renovation, we found out we couldn’t tear down the wall between the kitchen and front room. Since then, we’ve been staring at a big blank wall and kind of hating on it. Many hours of research and weeks of waiting and ta-da!! These incredible works of art make me now love this wall.
I honestly can’t even remember how we stumbled upon Timber and Grey (link here). I’d have to assume I came across something on Pinterest during my research? Anyway, I LOVE her work. She has a very wide range of typography and different quotes and sayings, and the wood frames are beautiful. She also has a very cool story, and I love supporting businesses like that. We chose to do a custom order, and we selected the biggest size since the wall is large.
Since the kitchen is basically the hub of the home, we analyzed (totally OVER-analyzed) what content we’d want displayed front and center. Obviously deciding to highlight the things most important to us. We leaned towards humor for the “Love” definition, but seriously, so true!!
The other two were a little more serious but even more true. In hindsight, I probably could’ve done “Fun”, “Faith”, and “Family” to keep with the “f’s”, but you can never have enough love in there:)
We are obsessed with the typography she used. It’s very “us”, and we’re excited to add to the collection eventually. We have our eye on multiple on her site, including a quote from my favorite, Joanna Gaines. I’m predicting I’ll be writing a “part 2” blog post in a few months. Her furniture is also absolutely incredible, but it doesn’t ship to the US yet. I’ll be watching for that!
There will be Miracles
I loved this sign as soon as I saw it. If you’ve ever given birth, this statement will hit close to home. After my sister required emergency surgery for a brain infection earlier this summer, I knew I had to make the leap and purchase it. There really will be miracles, and I’m so grateful for each and every one.
This sign is metal, and it’s at Magnolia Market (link here). Chip and Joanna have highlighted Jimmy Don a few times on their show, and I’ve wanted one of his pieces every since. I actually wanted two or three of them to hang in some creative way on that big kitchen wall, but Joe vetoed that idea saying the metal might be too heavy in that space. I bought this sign to prove him wrong, but as sometimes happens, I didn’t succeed.
The sign is super high quality and very heavy (in a good way). I hope to incorporate more of his stuff as we continue to decorate this home.
It didn’t feel right in the kitchen, but we found another random wall that it’s perfect on, and I walk by it a million times a day. Love the sign, love the words, love it all.
Couple more signs to love…
For Father’s Day, I came across this sign and ended up getting it for Joe. This past year has been hard for us. Moving from the city that was home for 23+ years to an apartment in a completely foreign place has definitely been a challenge. This quote was meaningful to me because my hope is that when looking back, we’ll forget all the hard stuff and just remember that we were together through it all.
I found this one on etsy, but her website is (here). The cool and unexpected thing about this sign was that the text doesn’t totally feel like it’s printed on. It’s hard to explain, but it reminds me of letterpress stationary. I’m not sure if all her signs are like that, but this one definitely is, and I like it a lot.
I know this last one doesn’t technically count as “inspiration”…. technically… but it’s another cool wooden sign that I picked up at The Vintage Marketplace nearby. It was beautifully done, and signs that label (i.e. kitchen, bakery, family, etc) are also huge.
This one was an impulse purchase and ended up not really working in the spot I thought it would. I don’t know where we’re going to put it, but I still love looking at it just the same.
There are about a million other signs I have my eye on, but you’d be surprised how much back and forth goes on before actually deciding to buy one. I think I have a problem. It’s embarrassing how many hours I can spend deciding on one piece of decor. Also still trying to figure out how much text I can get away with in each room. We’re capping off the text in the kitchen, so we’re currently focusing on non-text wall decor. I know I’ll be back at the sign research soon, though. I have to get my fix…
