After installing wallpaper in several rooms, several tools stuck out as the game changers! Here are the 3 tools for wallpaper installation that I didn’t know I needed, but have been a game changer when installing wallpaper…
Wallpaper Emotions: Then and Now
Our first home in 2010 came with a wallpapered bathroom. That paper wasn’t our style, so had to come down before painting. I swore that day that I would never use wallpaper and put myself or anyone else through that misery.
Fast-forward 14 years, and I’ve already put wallpaper in three spaces in our house. You would think I’d have learned “never say never” by now.
3 Must-Have Tools for Wallpaper Installation
1. Razor Blade Set
I’ve bought a couple of these kits because they can be used for so many different things. The interchangeable blade heads help a ton because a dull blade makes trimming the wallpaper SO much harder. I also think the price is great for how many uses I get out of them.
I’ve used these to scrape paint off glass when painting windows, etc, and when cutting anything that’s thin or needs precision cuts.
2. EZ Hang – Peel and Stick Wallpaper Helper
I didn’t know this stuff existed until a friend shared it after watching me struggle hardcore with peel-and-stick wallpaper. Pasted wallpaper always seemed easier to me because you can adjust the paper once it’s on the wall. This product lets you do that with peel-and-stick, and helps so much with lining up the seams.
Peel-and-stick paper has always driven me nuts because it sticks to everything which makes it impossible to work with. This spray makes peel-and-stick function like pasted… Genius! All you do is spray the wall before applying the paper. You can add more spray as you work – as needed.
3. Seam Repair and Seam Roller
Experts probably don’t need this because their seams are perfect. Me, on the other hand? I rely VERY heavily on these last two tools for wallpaper installation. I hate when the adhesive oozes out a ton all over the front of the wallpaper, so I probably used less paste than I should.
Enter my seam repair kit. The seam repair just sticks under the edge of the paper, goes on like glue, and the roller does the rest. The irony is that I still have to wipe a decent amount of this off the front of the paper, but it feels more in my control. It’s so satisfying to see the seam disappear!
This product would also be so helpful if you have older wallpaper that is lifting at the seams.
