Arched Dining Room Makeover

The very first room you see when you open the front door is the dining room. This view consisted of a gold wall with silly string-like texture added, along with other ornate details. (pictured below left)

I lean modern with my design style, and I especially LOVE all the smooth arches that are trending right now. This is one of the only rooms that I had a plan for since the very beginning. That back wall is one of the few walls in the house that doesn’t have a window. I knew it would be the perfect spot for an arch.

I didn’t want to build an entire wall and not have it be functional. At the same time, I knew it needed to be shallow storage because of the dimensions of the room. What’s the perfect thing to store and display, without needing a ton of depth? Wine bottles! Enter pocket doors, a shelf, and some wine pegs to make the arch look more interesting.

The other large element in this space is the coffered ceiling. I will go into more detail on that in a later post, but the main reason I added it is to make this room fit with the rest of the house. The arch and Roman Clay was everything my modern design-loving heart could want. However, the house we’re in needs the traditional element as well. Since I removed the crown, replacing it with this gorgeous, stained coffered ceiling was the perfect solution.

  1. Hi, sorry to do this but the comments on the Arhaus cabinet dupe are closed. I was hoping you could tell me the specific hinges you used that didn’t require a gap between the doors and kerf bent piece. Also, the dining arch is amazing and I have the same light in my dining room. Thanks!

    • Hi!! That’s so frustrating my other post wouldn’t accept comments, I’m so sorry about that! And thank you so much for such a nice message! I was actually able to re-use the hinges that came with the Home Depot stock cabinets (Hampton Bay)… I can’t seem to find exact details on the hinges, but they’re traditional overlay (partial overlay), concealed, and adjustable, if that helps at all!

  2. Any chance you have tutorial on how to do the arched wall?? It’s perfect!

    • Thank you so much for such a nice comment, and I am so sorry I’m just now seeing this! I can definitely work on a blog post with more info on the arched wall!
